Warriors' Path State Park Golf Course Wins Recycler of the Year Award

Warriors’ Path State Park Golf Course and Head Golf Pro Mark Houser recently won the 2005 Tennessee Recycling Coalition’s Government Recycler of the Year Award.

“We’re proud Warriors’ Path State Park Golf Course was recognized for its exceptional recycling program,” said Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke. “Mark Houser and the Warriors’ Path golf team are setting an environmental example and making a positive impact on visitors to our state park.”

The Warriors’ Path State Park Golf Course began recycling in 2003, collecting mostly plastic bottles and cardboard with a smaller amount of aluminum cans. In 2005, approximately 4,000 pounds of cardboard and 2,500 pounds of plastic from the golf course was collected and recycled. Aluminum cans are also collected donated to a local church or non-profit organization.

“I like to note Golf Magazine named the Tri-Cities the second best ‘Golf City’ in the United States for 2005,” said Head Pro Mark Houser. “As Warriors’ Path continues to be a leading golf destination for the region, I am pleased our staff can help the environment while also serving a growing market.”

Warriors' Path State Park Golf Course is an 18-hole course located on the shores of Fort Patrick Henry Lake and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Warriors’ Path is a favorite location among the 13 courses on the Tennessee Golf Trail as it hosts about 35,000 rounds of golf every year.
